The working party ethos
As a self-managed community, it makes good sense for us to carry out general maintenance and tidy-up works around the site ourselves. We rely on all of you to participate in some way or another.
Working Parties are organised on at least four Saturdays each year (typically April, June, August and October – a bit later this year!) to deal with general site upkeep. Sessions last for no more than 3 hours, rewarded by tea, coffee and brownies; those with a little energy left may return to the fray for a little longer. Those of us who participate all say that they really appreciate the opportunity to meet and chat to fellow-plotholders, whilst doing something worthwhile for the site as a whole.
The composition of the group changes from party to party - even if each of us can only participate once or twice a year, that's enough to make a big difference. Many hands make light work!
Additionally, volunteers are needed for specific tasks, such as erecting the marquee at the start of the season and putting it away at the end. This year, there are a couple of interesting projects to come, including sorting out the area designated as a Nature Reserve and planting an eco-friendly hedge along part of the border with David Lloyd (instead of erecting a fence!).
If you want to see the type of stuff we do, check out what we did in 2018. This year’s first session included cutting back the hedge on the east-side entry road and clearing a massively-overgrown plot to facilitate re-letting.
The Working Party dates for 2022 are as follows (Covid restrictions permitting):
Saturday 9th July 9.30 - 12.00 noon
Saturday 10th September 9.30 - 12.00 noon
Saturday 12th November 9.30 - 12.00 noon
Please contact us (committee@maga.org.uk) if you're not already on the list and play your part in keeping our site up to scratch!
It's not all tea, coffee and brownies!
